FREDD HAAS: Most people, if they suffer an injury in their lifetime, it's going to be an injury that arises out of the workplace. There are specific rules which govern your rights if you're injured on the job.
Initially, the first claim would be a claim for Worker's Compensation benefits. Most states have specific laws as to what you can recover in a Worker's Compensation case. It usually involves recovery of your medical bills, recovery of a percentage of your wages. And then, if you are injured permanently, recovery for the fact that you are permanently injured.
In addition to the work injury and its compensation benefits, you need to look and see if there's some other person, other than your employer or a co-employee, who may have caused your injury. In those cases, there may very well be a third-party case. Each case should be evaluated to make sure that there isn't a third-party case that can be brought as well.
